Somaliland Hosts School Syllabus And Terminology Meeting

Hargeysa, Somaliland, February 06, 2010 (SL Times) – Thirty two intellectuals, poets and academics from Somaliland, Puntland and south Somalia held a meeting in Hargeysa in order to set a standard for Somali terminology that could be used in teaching classes in elementary and middle schools.
Among the participants in the meeting were the renowned poets Muhammad Ibrahim Warsame (Hadrawi) and Muhammad Hashi Dhama’ (Gaarriye), both of whom participated in setting up teaching syllabuses for schools and the writing of the Somali language in 1972.
The meeting was organized by UNESCO PEER and was financed by the British government’s department for advancing international education. It took place at the department of Syllabuses in the ministry of education.
The Director of Somaliland’s Department of Education, Eng. Ali Abdi Odowaa said he is happy the meeting is taking place in Somaliland because in the past, these types of meetings used to take place in Nairobi.
