Somaliland Army Celebrates 16th Anniversary

Hargeysa, Somaliland, February 06, 2010 (SL Times) – Somaliland’s army celebrated the 16th anniversary since its establishment.
The Commander of Somaliland’s National Army, General Nuh Ismail Tani gave a speech in celebration of the occasion. He started his speech by recalling that at the time of independence, Somaliland had a strong and well trained army called the Somaliland Scouts, but this army disappeared during the union with Somalia.
However, with the restoration of Somaliland’s sovereignty, Somaliland’s army was re-established, because no sovereignty can be maintained without an army.
Talking to the media at the military’s National Command Center, General Nuh Ismail Tani said that the preparations for the rankings of the military are complete but they are waiting for the individuals to complete the required military training.
Addressing the recent terrorist explosions in Las Anod, Gen. Nuh Ismail Tani said they are dress rehearsals for explosions in Somaliland’s bigger cities. Gen. Nuh Ismail Tani criticized the international community for not providing Somaliland with the military assistance it needs.
