Hargeysa, Somaliland, February 06, 2010 (SL Times) – Somaliland
President Dahir Rayale Kahin met with a delegation from Switzerland. The
Swiss delegation was headed by Switzerland’s envoy to Sudan and the Horn
of Africa, Mr Andrea Semadeni.
A written statement released by the President’s spokesman pointed out
that the two sides discussed strengthening relations between the two
countries, development projects, and the political situation in
Somaliland.
President Dahir Rayale Kahin highlighted to his guests the important
role Somaliland is playing in establishing peace and security in the
region. The President cited the fact that Somaliland is the only country
in the Horn of Africa that is holding terrorists and pirates in its
jails after trying and convicting them in a court of law. He also
stressed that Somaliland did all of this without help from the
international community. President Dahir Rayale Kahin appealed to the
international community to assist Somaliland in maintaining peace and
security in a very dangerous part of the world.
