Hargeysa, Somaliland, February 06, 2010 (SL Times) – Eng. Nasir Ali Shire, a member of parliament from UCID party who has just come back from a trip to Saudi Arabia said that Sheikh Sharif’s ministers have lobbied the Saudi government to stop importing livestock from Somaliland.
Explaining his point, Eng. Nasir Ali Shire said that Sheikh Sharif’s ministers have written several letters to the Saudi government asking it not to import livestock from Somaliland, and that the latest one was the letter to the Saudi minister of agriculture. He added that the animosity of the various factions in Somalia towards Somaliland is long-standing and goes all the way back to Ali Mahdi and includes Abdiqasim, Abdillahi Yusuf, and now Sheikh Sharif. He urged Somalia’s factions to accept the fact that Somaliland is an independent, sovereign country.
