Hassan Ganey Composes New Poem

Hargeysa, Somaliland, February 20, 2010 (SL Times) – The poet Hassan Haji Abdillahi (Hassan Ganey) composed a poem called Shinley (the poem starting with the letter “Sh”). The poem focuses on some of the problems bedeviling Somaliland’s society.
One of these problems is the encouragement of the practice of lies and negativity and the discouragement of truthfulness and good behavior. The poem also focuses on poor governance and the breaking of many of the agreements regarding Somaliland’s governance, beginning with the agreement that Somaliland should be governed according to Islamic principles.
The poet advises Somaliland’s people to avoid excessive emotionalism and to choose their leaders based on merit. Somaliland’s poets have played an important in the country’s restoration of its sovereignty and serve as the conscience of the nation. Hassan Haji Abdillahi’s poem is a reminder to Somaliland’s politicians that they must adhere to the principles of good governance, justice and progress on which the nation was founded.
