Sheikh Sharif’s Militia Fight Each Other And Kill Civilians

Mogadishu, Somalia, February 20, 2010 (SL Times) – Sheikh Sharif’s militia fought each other Wednesday in an area called ex-control Afgoye which is part of Mogadishu. Four people including civilians were killed in the fighting. Reports say that the fighting was triggered by conflict over extortion money that Sheikh Sharif’s militias extract from civilians.
A day later (Thursday), a similar fire fight broke out between Sheikh Sharif’s police at Dabka Juncture of Mogadishu. Two policemen were killed and four others, including a police commander by the name of Dahir Ali Faray, were injured. According to the Voice of America’s Somali Service (Feb.18, 2010), the conflict was due to a disagreement over a rifle.
