Somaliland Celebrates International Women’s Day

Hargeysa, Somaliland, March 13, 2010 (SL Times) – Somaliland celebrated the international women’s day on March 8th. The celebrations which took place in various regions of the country were sponsored by the ministry of family and community affairs in conjunction with UN and international organizations.
In a speech in Hargeysa, the Director of the Ministry of Family and Community Affairs, Mr Abdirahman Muhammad Maal congratulated the women of Somaliland for the special occasion and stressed that his ministry’s mission is to contribute to the advancement of women.
The President of the Labor Organization, Mr Abdirahman Hussein Adami also congratulated women for the important occasion of the international women’s day, but he was also critical of both the government and the opposition parties for not fulfilling the pledges they made for women.
