SOHASCO: Student’s Awareness Campaign Against HIV/AIDS

Hargeysa, Somaliland, April 3, 2010 (SL Times) – Somaliland Health and Social Care Organization (SOHASCO) launched last week a wide range campaign to raise the awareness of school students against the dangers of HIV/AIDS, which has affected millions of people in the world its awareness campaign at the Elementary and Intermediate School of Sheikh Bashir School in Hargeysa.
Mrs. Khadra Jama, principal of the Sheikh Bashir School gave the students a brief on the history of HIV/AIDS and its dangers to people. She said, “It is a disease that has caused great calamities on human beings. And the need to protect our youth and future generations from the dangers of this disease.”
The Principal advised the students to be always on the alert from every cause that will make them victims to HIV/AIDS such as adultery and misbehaviors and to behave in the manners and conduct permitted by Islam.
The Principal thanked SOHASCO for its concern and commitment to raise the awareness of the students against HIV/AIDS.
Executive Director of SOHASCO Mr. Mohamud Hassan Abdillahi spoke of the dangers of HIV/AIDS and briefed the students on the different ways it is transmitted and how it can be avoided.
He said; “No cure has been found so far and the safest way to avoid being a victim of the disease is to take the necessary precautions, which is abiding by the principles of Islam.”
Speaking on the aim of the campaign, he said; “We want the youth to understand that no one can be free from the disease and that its dangers is incurable.”
Chairman of SOHASCO Mr. Abdirizak Hussein Jama spoke in the great length about the campaign for raising awareness of students.
