Letter To British Minister For Africa – Faisal Ali Warabe

Date: 18th May 2010

Dear Minister,

Please accept my warm congratulations on your appointment as Minister for Africa.

I wish you success in mastering the challenges and responsibilities of your new position.

I would also like to thank British Government for its support for Somaliland, particularly promoting democracy and good governance.

As you know, in the last 19 years Somaliland has been a beacon of hope in the troubled region of Horn of Africa. Whereas Somalia has descended further into chaos with over 15 governments and untold death toll. Somaliland has held local, parliamentary, presidential elections, not to mention even holding a referendum after 10 years of independence. By establishing security and order Somaliland has been able to develop a free market economy, which in turn has led to the building of infrastructure of hospitals and schools around the country.

Due all the progress and hope that Somaliland has demonstrated in the last 19 years, I trust the Coalition Government will reconsider its policy towards Somaliland and will actively encourage the African Union to accept Somaliland as a democratic entity that has abrogated a union with a failed state and is not a secessionist state.

Piracy off the coast of Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden is a problem facing the entire international community. Britain is at the forefront of the international response to piracy and the Royal Navy is actively countering piracy in the region and so as Somaliland Coastal Guards. Therefore it is more necessary than ever for Britain and Somaliland to work together to defeat piracy in the region of Horn of Africa.

Once again I would like to thank you and look forward to the prospect of working with you.

Yours sincerely,

Eng. Faisal Ali Warabe

Presidential Candidate for Somaliland &

Chairman of the Justice and Welfare Party

Hargeysa, Somaliland
