President Urges Somalilanders To Get Voting Cards

Hargeysa, Somaliland, May 22, 2010 (SL Times) – Somaliland President Dahir Rayale Kahin held a press conference Monday. The president addressed several important issues, among them, the necessity of citizens' participation in the coming election and the importance of the citizens taking their voting cards from the distribution centers. The president also revealed that the 19th anniversary of Somaliland's reclamation of its independence (May 18) will not be celebrated because of the need to prepare for the election. Similarly, the 50th anniversary of Somaliland's independence (June 26) will not be celebrated because it would be election day.
President Dahir Rayale Kahin warned the people that Somaliland's enemies might engage in subversive activities in the middle of the election, as they had done in similar occasions in the past and advised Somalilanders to be vigilant.
He also referred to his recent visit to France and pointed out that the international community is finally acknowledging Somaliland's just cause for independence. Even Arab countries that used to be the least receptive to Somaliland’s cause have changed their tune lately, the president said.
The president did not take any questions from the press.
