Hargeysa, Somaliland, July 10, 2010 (SL Times) – The official in charge of eradicating tuberculosis (TB) in Somaliland, Dr Ismail Adan Abdillahi, lauded the country’s anti TB efforts. Dr Ismail Adan Abdillahi revealed that Somaliland has been making steady progress in fighting TB since the administration of Abdirahman Ahmed Ali until now.
To prove his point, Dr Ismail Adan Abdillahi said that in 2009 there were 8 TB clinics in the country, but since then, 4 more clinics were established in Sheikh, Hargeysa, and Balligubadle. He also pointed out that the methods used in delivering medical care has improved, and TB treatment is now administered in a cultural sensitive way. Moreover, TB care has been extended and now has reached rural areas. According to Dr Ismail Adan Abdillahi, TB is now under control in Somaliland, and the country does well in controlling the disease compared to regional and other countries, even Persian Gulf countries, thanks to the health care personnel in Somaliland. In addition to highlighting Somaliland’s progress in eradicating TB, Dr Ismail Adan Abdillahi congratulated the people of Somaliland for the successful presidential election.
