Qur'an Recitation Contest Starts In Somaliland

Hargeysa, Somaliland, August 21, 2010 (SL Times) – As is customary every year during the holy month of Ramadan, a Qur'an memorization and recitation contest started throughout Somaliland.
A ceremony marking the beginning of the contest was held at Ali Matan Mosque and was attended by memorizers of the holy book, religious leaders and other officials.
The contest has been taking place in Somaliland for the last 12 years and the number of contestants this year are sixty three.
Speaking on the occasion, Sheikh Ismail Abdi Hurre revealed that the contest was organized by Dahabshil Money Transfer Company.
The purpose of the contest is to improve young people's knowledge of the Qur'an.
