How Great We Grew Up by Fadumo

The Central Theme Of Elmi Bodheris’ Poems

The following essay is written by Fadumo who is a youngster at Abaarso Tech High School in Hargeysa. This is a firsthand look at the great work that Abaarso Tech is doing for our youth in Somaliland

My name is Fadumo and I was born in Hargiesa in 1994.I leave with my family and I have 6 brothers and 10 sisters. I have wonderful parents who encourage me to do my best and after Allah they were the reason of my success to finish my classes. I was the third daughter of my family so I was the third female to go to school.

When I was 5 years old I went to Madarassa (Quran school), and I was there for three years. After that when I was 8 years old I went to my first school who was Blooming and I was there until I finished my primary studies .For me it was very difficult to learn all my subjects in English after, I learnt them in Arabic. At the end everything became very easy, and that was by a great effort I made. When I finished my primary studies, and Ministry of education prepared the National examination I feel frightening, because I thought that this exam will be very hard as all the people say, but it was kind of easy. After I finished my intermediate school it was now the time to get ready to began, high school but I didn’t know which one I should choose. Luckily I went to Abaarso Tech high school. The first time I went to Abaarso Tech School, I was able to understand a little bit about what the teachers are saying but I couldn’t respond to them. Even though the teachers were speaking slowly to us, in order to understood them. But I couldn’t understand them. During the school time we were forced to speak English all the time but we couldn’t speak. It was difficult. Even the teachers knew that it was difficult they were still forcing us and they were giving us detentions if we didn’t speak English. So we were trying and trying to do our best. All of the sudden students spoke English all the time even when the school time is over. We practice a lot and that is why we improved a lot. English proverb says” Practice makes perfect” and we became prefect after we made a lot of practice. Now they spoke with us if they were speaking to a Native American, and we are able to understand them.

Now I realize how much Abaarso tech improved my education not only English but everything that I learn in Abaarso Tech. Also, I realize how much I grew up with a lot of experienced. I hope I will finish my high school peacefully and successfully, and then work hard to get a perfect future. When I grew up I want to be a doctor because I want to help the sick people Insha Allah.

My thanks is to Allah after that to my parents, to my family, and also my great thanks to all my second parents both in Blooming and in Abaarso Tech.
