Who Made The Deal With Devil?

Ahmed Ali Ibrahim Sabeyse

The fiasco surrounding the 300 men regiment of ONLF terrorists making their way through the western seaboard of Somaliland without any hindrance is indicative of serious lapses in the nation's security. Perhaps, the whole administration is still in a festive mood, celebrating the recent election victory, and was completely absorbed in expurgating the remnants of the previous government's employees from its payroll. What has transpired during the Eid-Ul-Fitr holidays, is a clear manifestation of the sheer incompetence of the country's security agencies- The Office of the National Security Intelligence, the Police Forces, and the National Army.
Without local collaboration, the terrorists of ONLF would have never executed such a flawless operation, neither they would have even contemplated to make such a daring attempt to off load their munitions at one of our remote coastal villages and head for the Ethiopian border, a distance of 150 miles, without being intercepted or noticed. The timing of the operation and the ease of passage point to a well connected local facilitation. And who knows how many such successful undertakings were made in the recent past?
The worst part of it is that the enemy is endeavoring to make a foothold in the Eastern part of the country- At Galgala mountain ranges, Al-Shabaab has already established a strong hold and the government of Somaliland made no move to address this national security threat. The same situation exists in Buhodle area and our government is musing over the evacuation of Somaliland army from the area.
To this day our Minister of Interior, the Commander of the Somaliland Police, the Army Chief of Staff, as well as the much heralded head of the National Security Intelligence are not forthcoming as far as the identity and the numbers of this terrorist group are concerned. Their statements have been all contradictory, let alone allay the concerns of the general public.
Comparatively, at one time, the security agencies of the previous government have foiled Al-Shabaab masterminded plots to wreak havoc in western Europe and the United Kingdom of Great Britain. The Ethiopian government notified Somaliland while this ugly operation was unfolding within the territory of Somaliland! A commission of enquiry to fathom this spectacle is not sufficient to address this national security breach because the repercussions go beyond the borders of Somaliland and therefore, the government owes the public some facts and quick answers on the circumstances surrounding the issue to find out who made the deal with the devil?
