Hargeysa, Somaliland, July 30, 2011 (SL Times) – UCID
party has split into two camps, one led by the Chairman of the party,
Faysal Ali Warabe, and the other led by his deputy, Adan Mohammed Mire (
The split began with the announcement of the deputy chairman and other
top UCID officials that they had sacked Chairman Faysal Ali Warabe.
In a meeting at Hargeysa’s Scandinavian hotel that was dubbed as UCID’s
fourth general meeting, Chairman Faysal Ali Warabe reacted by sacking 9
party officials from the positions they held within the party, including
his first and second deputies, the spokesman, and the general secretary.
Among UCID officials that Faysal Ali Warabe sacked were: Muhammad
Abdilaahi Ur’ade, Hasan Huseen Odyare, Muse Haji Mohamoud Guleed, Adan
Muhammad Mire Waqaf, Abdirahman Muhammad Abdilaahi, Huseen Adan Ali Ige
(Asad), Abdilaahi Saeed Dheere and others.
Similarly, UCID’s secretary of internal affairs, Muhammad Ibrahim Adan (Qabo),
replaced some of the regional chairmen of the party.
The conflict between the two sides has taken an ugly turn at the
headquarters of the party, and the police had to lock the headquarters
so that neither side could use it until the issue is resolved.
Commenting on the decision to lock UCID party’s headquarters in
Hargeysa, the Deputy Minister of Interior, Osman Garad Sofe, said it is
not the ministry’s job to take sides, and they had taken that step in
order to ensure safety and security which is their responsibility. He
also recommended that UCID settle their conflict based on their party’s
laws and regulations.
