Hargeysa-Djibouti Road Construction Begins

Hargeysa, Somaliland, November 19, 2011 (SL Times) – Hargeysa’s local government has started construction work on the road from north Hargeysa to Dawga ‘Ad. Tractors belonging to the city government have been clearing trees and rocks from the road.
Hargeysa’s Deputy Mayor, Abdillahi Uradde, who was leading the road clearing efforts said the local government gives great importance to the road connecting Hargeysa with Dawga 'Ad because of the economic vitality of the road which is used for transporting people, as well as goods and services, to, and from, Djibouti. The Deputy Mayor pointed out that the trees were cleared from the road with the consent of the farmers who owned them.
The Chairman of the Committee for building Dawga ‘Ad road, Abdilqadir Hashi Elmi, thanked the local government for contributing to the project which has been going on for several months. He also expressed hope that the road will soon become free of the frequent traffic accidents that have plagued it.
