Foreign Secretary: Why The International Community Has To Come Together To Help Somalia

The British Foreign Secretary William Hague

Foreign Secretary William Hague writes in the Huffington Post UK, following his visit to Somalia.
In September 1992 Foreign Secretary Douglas Hurd visited Mogadishu. He could not have known that it would be 20 years before any of his successors set foot in the country again. Shortly after his visit Britain's Embassy was shut and Somalia plunged deeper into the vortex of suffering and violence that has consumed it ever since. Today, it is the world's worst failed state, one that is staggering back onto its feet.

Mogadishu, Somalia, January 28, 2012 – The British government is holding a conference on the future of Somalia next month. In the last 20 years the east African country has suffered enormously – in the collapse of law and order, natural and human-made calamities, the displacements of its citizens, the rise of piracy and the spread of insurgent movements and seditious militias. These have not only threatened the survival of the nation but also dampened the morale of the people and their sense of national pride.

Disturbing Signs From London

Although it may be premature at this point to pass judgment on the coming London conference, nevertheless, we will not be going out on a limb if we said the early signs leading up to the conference should give cause for concern to Somalilanders. The signs we are talking about are the UK’s latest diplomatic moves all of which are meant to boost the TFG but with not a single gesture towards Somaliland. In addition to organizing the conference to help the TFG, the British government has already sent its foreign minister to Mogadishu, designated an ambassador for Somalia and promised to open an embassy there when that becomes feasible.

By\ Abdulaziz Al-Mutairi

Terrorists across “Somalia” are gathering at the Buhodle town of far south-east Somaliland, to establish safe-haven for their illegal armed operations across Somaliland and Ethiopia. ONLF, Al-Etihad Al-Islamiya, Al-Shabaab and tribal militia loyal to Warlord Ali Khalif Galaydh are building illegal army in the town to destabilize the region.

Al-Etihad Al-Islamiya and Al-Shabaab are internationally known terrorist organizations. ONLF is leading illegal and fruitless struggle against Ethiopia and violates the human rights.

Somaliland Borders Are Unalterable

Ibrahim Hassan Gagale
The officials and surrogates of de facto Puntland Administration of Somalia routinely claim in the media that Somaliland Borders are "Colonial Borders". This blind, habitual denial of Somaliland Republic borders indicates that these individuals are either ignorant of the historical origin of the current borders of African states or intentionally mislead listeners for obsessively pursuing unattainable clan-based statehood that does not exist in Africa or elsewhere.

Somaliland: Do Not Shatter What Is Intact

Yusuf Dirir Ali. MD

Somaliland is invited to attend a London conference on Somalia. This conference is spearheaded by the British Government and there are conflicting reports stating different scenarios of what the international community is attempting to achieve through this conference. I hope the international community is sophisticated enough and not naive to confuse Somaliland with the anarchic Somalia. The international community must not try in any way, shape or form to drag Somaliland into UN/AU trusteeship or a union with Somalia.

Response To NSPU’s Failure To Fake Document, Miserably

Dalmar Kaahin

Dear Ali Artan, I read your opinion posted on wardheernews.com: http://wardheernews.com/Articles%202012/Feb/02_nspu_statement.html

Not only have you made terrible blunders to fabricate a document, but you also failed, so miserably, to anticipate the readers' reactions, therefore; you have gained my sympathy. Your opinion truly demonstrates your inability to understand that the readers using the massive resources available, at their fingers tips, could trace the source of your paper. That is, entertaining your friends at the Tim Horton is one thing; trying to produce a document that insults our intelligence and hoping that people will fall for it, is something else.

The Argument For Recognition Of Somaliland Republic

By Aniis A. Essa

I. Introduction

After a bloody civil war, in January 1991 Siyad Barr’s Twenty-one-years regime was overthrown in Somalia.  The Northern Half of Somalia Declared its Independence as the Republic of Somaliland in May 1991.   This outline summarizes the main arguments for the propriety of such a declaration and its recognition as an independent state under international law.  A thorough study is under preparation.
