President Sillanyo To Host Legislators

Hargeysa, Somaliland, February 4, 2012 (SL Times) – Somaliland President Ahmed Sillanyo is expected to hold a meeting for Somaliland legislators from both parliament and the upper house.
The main topic of discussion at the meeting will be the United Kingdom’s invitation to Somaliland to the London conference on Somalia.
The invitation has caused a lot of heated controversy in Somaliland because Somaliland has a long-standing policy of not attending conferences about Somalia and many Somalilanders do not see any compelling reasons why the country should change this policy.
The United Kingdom’s deputy ambassador in Addis Ababa has visited Somaliland twice within the last three weeks in order to convince Somaliland to attend the conference.
Initial unconfirmed reports indicate that the ambassador made some headway in persuading Somaliland’s government to attend the conference but the Somaliland government has been tight lipped so far.
