Soccer Council Criticizes Minister Of Sports

Hargeysa, Somaliland, February 11, 2012 (SL Times) – The Somaliland Soccer Coordination Council lashed out at the minister of Youth and Sports, Abdi Saeed Fahiye, and accused him of dereliction of his duties.
The Council stressed that soccer competitions had taken place four times before and the fact that President Ahmed Sillanyo had to set up a national committee for the competitions is a shame on the ministry of sports because it means the ministry could not fulfill its responsibilities.
The council also charged the minister with trying to disband their organization.
Speaking at a press conference in Imperial Hotel, the President of the Soccer Coordination Council, Ahmed Muhammad Sheikh Dhago, said the problem started when the minister tried to get them to take his side in a quarrel between him and the director general of his ministry, and they decided not to get involved and to stay independent.
The Deputy President of Soccer Coordination Council, Suleiman Hassan Dahir, also took part in the press conference and said the council used to have good relations with the ministry of sport, but since the current minister took over, feuds between various officials within the ministry have become common and relations between the council and the ministry have soured. He added that the fact that President Ahmed Sillanyo has set up a national committee to organize the regional games is a good indication of the minister of sports inability of handling his duties.
The Council requested that the coming school soccer competitions should not be held until the dispute between them and the minister is resolved.
