“The World Will Regret Failing To Recognize Somaliland” UKIP

London, UK, February 25, 2012 (SL Times) – Ahead of the last week’s London Conference on Somalia, British MEP, Godfrey Bloom, warned the international community to fail to recognize Somaliland as independent state.

"The London conference on Somalia will fail to have any real positive outcome unless it addresses the situation of Somaliland", said Godfrey Bloom MEP.

The Prime Minister, the Foreign Office, the UN and all can talk all they want about brining peace and security to the Horn of Africa. They can discuss allowing Royal Marines to attack pirate bases. They can throw millions of pounds in aid money at the country, but all of this will be as nothing if they fail to build on the regions strengths".

The UKIP MEP was speaking after attending a Rally for Somaliland on February 22, 2012, outside 10 Downing Street.

"For 21 years the country has grown, unrecognized and unheralded." he said, "It is a multi-party democracy. It is free trading. We even use its prisons to lock up pirates. But if we fail to support it we will be missing a trick".

"Currently our Government is using the stick it must learn to use the carrot. We must reinforce success rather than failure. To do that we must accept reality on the ground. We must recognize Somaliland".
