New Terminal Added To Hargeysa Airport

Hargeysa, Somaliland, May 5, 2012 (SL Times) – Somaliland Vice President Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail inaugurated a new terminal at Hargeysa’s Egal international airport.
The new terminal was announced in a ceremony that was held at the airport. The event was attended by Vice President Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail (Zayla'i), the Minister of Aviation, Mohamoud Hashi Abdi, the Minister of Public Works, Ahmed Abdi Habsade, the Minister of Planning, Dr Sa'ad Shire, and the Chairman of Kulmiye Party, Musa Bihi.
Speaking to the gathering, the Minister of Aviation said the airport will also get a new one kilometer and 700 meter long runway. The runway will be used by 20 Ton planes whereas jets will use Berbera airport. The runway will be constructed with the help of the ICAO. Moreover, the airport's tower will be made taller, and the UNDP will help in this matter.
The head of the airport's travel section noted that the airport now has cameras and fingerprinting equipment that are linked to computer databases, and travelers are fingerprinted and checked on the computer before they are allowed to travel.
