Somaliland Basketball Team Honored Upon Return From Kampala

Hargeysa, Somaliland, May 5, 2012 (SL Times) – Somaliland Ministry of Sports welcomed the national basketball team upon returning from the East and Central African games in Kampala, Uganda.
The welcoming party was attended by the Minister of Sports, Mr Ali Saeed Raygal, the General Director of the Ministry of Sports, Mustafa Muhammad Qodah, the Director of the Water Department, the Director of the Roads Department, athletes, legislators and many other distinguished guests.
The Director General of the Ministry of Sport, Mustafa Muhammad Qodah who was in charge of the management of the team when they were in Uganda, spoke at the event and said this was their first visit abroad and they had benefited a lot from participating in the athletic competition. He praised the warm reception they received in Kampala and expressed his elation upon seeing Somaliland’s flag everywhere during the games.
The President for the basketball coordination committee, Mr Mohamoud Hasan Abdillahi said it was a big achievement that Somaliland had a chance to take part in an international competition. He thanked the Minister of Sports and pointed out that although the Minister had been in office for a short period, he made it possible for the team to participate in the games.
Speaking on behalf of his fellow athletes, Abdirahman Hassan (Kuto) expressed his gratitude for their fans for their strong support during the games in Kampala.
The Minister of Sports, Mr Ali Saeed Raygal gave some brief remarks that put the celebration in perspective. He said although he was new to the job, he was determined that Somaliland’s team take part in the East and Central African games. He thanked President Ahmed Silanyo, government ministers, SOMTEL Telecommunications Company, and the media for contributing to Somaliland team’s participation in the competitions.
