Hargeysa’s Streets Become Impassable

Hargeysa, Somaliland, May 5, 2012 (SL Times) – It has lately become very difficult to get around the city of Hargeisa. The problem was caused by rains that made large pools in several parts of the city. The rains have also dumped sand, stones and trash in the water pathways throughout the city which led to water overflowing into the main roads.
According to Haatuf Newspaper, Hargeysa’s local government has not addressed this recurring and worsening problem, and many people are wondering what does the local government do with the international aid that it gets and that are supposed to be spent on improving the condition of the roads.
At this point the problem is so serious the local government must quickly do something about the situation of Hargeysa’s roads. Likewise, residents should stop contributing to the problem by not dumping their trash in the streets.
