We don't know who the

been mounting questions over the number of people
from the UK who have been going to Somalia to help
al-Shabaab, the organization affiliated to al-Qaeda
that controls part of the country.

Series 1 – 3
Review by: David Butcher
Just because Simon Reeve breezes around, high-fiving
locals and cracking jokes, don’t make the mistake of
thinking he’s a lightweight. The moment you begin to
worry this series might lapse into sun-dappled
travelogue, he’ll alight on a weighty local issue
and find a human way to tell the story.

The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Foreign
Affairs and National Security Policy and Strategy
"The question could be raised regarding the
recognition of Somaliland as an independent state.
Taking this initiative is not preferable to Ethiopia
because it would create negative feelings on the
part of Somalis living in the rest of Somalia and
others would be suspicious of our intent. Therefore,
our cooperation with these regions should not
include recognizing the regional administrations as
independent states."

Sultan Suleiman Ali Ismail And The Art Of Speaking Well |
Foreign
observers and travelers had often commented on the
importance that Somalis attach to the ability to speak well
or the gift of the gab. The reason Somalis cultivated the
art of speaking well is not hard to pin down: Somalis lived
in a predominantly oral society throughout most of their
history. In such a setting, the spoken word was the primary
instrument of communication. It was not just what you said
that mattered, but also how you said it. The idea being,
that your words should be selected so they will have the
exact effect that you want them to have.

Are The Somali
Unionists’ Predictions On Somaliland’s Collapse
Crumbling On Their Feet? |

Dear Mohamed F

I quickly skimmed through your opinion entitled, "Is
“Somaliland” Crumbling on Ahmed Silanyo’s Feet?"
published on wardheernews website because hardly was
a need for me to ponder on the content of any of
your “articles” for the obvious reasons. That is,
for you recycling the same paper repeatedly seems to
be an unwinnable contest. As always after reading
one of your emotional and subjective “papers”, I ask
myself: “Haven’t I read it before? Or is this just
another darn déjà vu?”

Abortive TFG-Somaliland
Talks: Golden Opportunity for Somaliland |

Domestic policy can only defeat us; foreign policy
can kill us - John Kennedy
By Abdi Hussein Daud
The International Conference on Somalia hosted in
London on February 23, 2012 proclaimed that the
question of Somaliland’s independence is an issue
for Somalis to negotiate. The participants of the
Conference therefore encouraged a preliminary
bilateral dialogue between Somaliland and Somalia,
as the resulting Communiqué emanated from the
Conference substantiated. Honoring the clause, the
two parties agreed upon the nature as well as the
manner in which the dialogue ought to be conducted.
The path to the bilateral dialogue was the admission
of the relative status of the two sovereign states.
Put bluntly, the agreement was that Somaliland and
Somalia will re-negotiate as two separate sovereign
states based on their respective status prior to the
union; namely, the former Somaliland Protectorate
(Somaliland) and the former Italian colony
(Somalia).

Somaliland-Ethiopia
Relationship |
|
Overpowering Gratitude Vs Vexing Misgivings
By Ahmed I. Hassan
Author’s Note:
This is the chapter on Somaliland-Ethiopia
Relationship in a book titled “Somaliland: The
Legacies of Non-Recognition” which is still in
the works. I thought a preview of this chapter would
not be out of place in contributing to endeavors
towards examining and understanding a highly complex
subject—AIH
Somalilanders will, in all likelihood, always be
grateful to Ethiopians.
This is because once upon a time, Somalilanders,
thoroughly attrited, were fleeing in mass on foot
for dear life. And Ethiopia happened to be the only
country where they found the safe havens which saved
them from almost complete genocide.

What Does The
Somaliland Flag Really Represent? |
|
Abdul Hussein
The current Somaliland
flag was adopted in 1997 during a period when
debating about a flag was the least of their
concern. The Somaliland public has not madly fallen
in love with the flag but were happy to replace the
blue flag.
The new flag, three equal
horizontal stripes of green-white-red with the
Islamic creed made little sense to the Somaliland
people. Largely because the designers of the flag
never really explained the symbols and how that
relates to the people. Somalilanders seen various
versions of the flag and numerous interpretations of
it.
