States are at once form and substance, theater and function. Their most fundamental function is power: territorial control through a monopoly on organized violence. First Impressions On Somaliland-Somalia Talks

The much talked-about talks between Somaliland and Somalia finally started this week in the UK’s Chevening House. The talks were almost canceled before they even started when Somalia added two individuals from Puntland’s government to Somalia’s delegates to the negotiations. Eventually, those two individuals were dropped which made it possible for the talks to commence.
Somalilanders’ opinions on the talks are divided. There are those, mainly in the opposition parties, who are fundamentally opposed to contacts with Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government, unless it first recognizes Somaliland’s independence. Others, mainly government supporters, back the talks. While many more others are undecided due to lack of enough information and are trying to figure out what is going on.

A Message To Those Who Do Not Agree With Me:

We are building a country that has many enemies, and what we need is cohesion and not otherwise.

By: Omer Hussein Dualeh

Good day my fellow citizens. I would like to highlight the importance of the word patriot & when your country needs everything you can offer.

Somaliland: Khatuumo Should Not Forget Its Mandate

By: Liban Ahmad
Six months have passed since Khatuumo administration was declared in Taleeh district. Militias loyal to the administration have clashed with Somaliland forces twice at Kalabaydh and Tukaraq. Both clashes point to a lack of mandate awareness as far as political leadership of Khatuumo is concerned. President Ahmed Elmi ( Ahmed Karaash) who is expected to hand over the rotating presidential duties to a new president in line with the Khatuumo charter, has achieved less politically compared to traditional leadership of Khatuumo , the Garaads , now based in Mogadishu.
The latter succeeded in standing up to Puntland which attempted to appoint Sool traditional leaders who will select MPs for the proposed new Somali Parliament which will elect a president in Mogadishu in August 2012.
The G10, the Diaspora group which organized the 2011 London conference and who still has an influence in the political decisions of Khatuumo leaders, has put the accent on co-existence with neighboring on the basis of the guiding principles in the declaration of the London conference in 2011. G10 group has forgotten or ignored to address the reconciliation for people for whom Khatuumo was formed. The group insists Taleeh conference was a comprehensive gathering in which all intra-clan political differences were addressed.

Somaliland: President Sillanyo, The Mastermind of Somaliland’s New Direction

For Somaliland, today (22 June 2012) has been a very moving day, because the past is always here. It never goes away. Somalilanders always believe that you can select what is best from the past to help you go forward to the future. For many years we bore the burden of international isolation, but we have displayed patience and endurance to a degree not easily imagined.
Somaliland experienced itself as being received, welcomed and understood as it is by the TGF and the international community. The end of the two days of talks in London on Somaliland and Somalia provided a framework and an end to the metaphors from both sides of the talks. Somaliland is reassured that talks will go on until the two sides reach an agreement regardless of the time. This means that talks are phased out to be in a sequential order.
