Somaliland Vice President Says He Does Not Know The Agenda Of Talks Between Somaliland And Somalia

Hargeysa, Somaliland, June 23, 2012 (SL Times) – Somaliland vice President, Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail (Zayla’i) said he did not know the agenda of the talks between Somaliland and Somalia. The vice president was responding to questions by the Voice of America (VOA). Asked what position Somaliland will take when the talks end, he said Somaliland will hold the position of the president, which is the position that Somaliland’s delegation held before they left for the talks.
The vice president attributed his lack of information about the agenda, and whether it was written down or not, to the fact that he was traveling abroad, in Sweden, for two weeks, and had just gotten back.
He noted that when Somalia reaches the level of Somaliland’s progress and the leaders of Somalia establish peace in Somalia, then Somaliland and Somalia can further discuss matters.
Speaking on the role of the international community, he said the international community will only prepare the location of the talks, and representatives from the international community will attend the talks, but the international community will not participate in them.
Asked what outcome he would like to see out of the conference, he said he would like Somalia to honor Somaliland people’s decision to be independent and to accept Somaliland as a neighboring country.
