Djiboutian President Breaks Ground On Highway To Somaliland

Djibouti, July 14, 2012 – Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh broke ground on Wednesday (July 10th) on a road connecting Djibouti to Somaliland, Djibouti's La Nation reported.
The 20-kilometre road will improve trade between Somaliland and Djibouti, as well as enhance tourism on the coast, the official paper reported.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Mohamed Moussa Balala praised the construction of the road and improvements to Djibouti's transport network, saying the country "is on the verge of a transformation and proliferation, giving a major place in the sub-region."
Yemen-based construction company Hawk International will build the road with partial financing from the Islamic Development Bank and will take 18 months to complete, Balala said.
