Turkish Officials Interview Scholarship Students

Hargeysa, Somaliland, July 14, 2012 (SL Times) – The Director General of the Ministry of Higher Education, Mr Khadar Ahmed Diriye, announced that they have received scholarships from Turkey. He further explained that about 1000 students had applied for these scholarships online and that most of those who applied are students at Somaliland’s universities.
Mr Khadar Ahmed Diriye denied some reports in the media that the ministry of education was not even aware of the presence of the Turkish officials in the country. He said not only did they know of the presence of the Turkish delegation, he and the minister of Education, Zamzam Abdi Adan, had met with them.
The Director General also disclosed that the Turkish officials are affiliated with the office of the deputy Turkish Prime Minister, Mr Bulent Arinc, and that they came to pursue the next step in the processing of scholarship applications and had interviewed students at Ambassador Hotel.
On the issue of school examinations, the director general noted that, unlike in the past, the ministry’s officials now go to all the regions in order to make sure the exams are being conducted properly.
Mr Khadar Ahmed Diriye also reiterated the foreign minister’s earlier announcement that the Turkish deputy minister, Mr Bulent Arinc, is going to visit Somaliland.
