Hargeysa, Somaliland, August 4, 2012 (SL Times) – The Minister of Health Dr Hussein Muhumed Mahammad (Xuseen Xoog) announced warned the country about an increase in the incidence of Hepatitis disease in the country. Elaborating on this point, the minister said a recent study has shown that about 6% of Somaliland’s population have the virus that causes the various kinds of Hepatitis.
The Minister of Health added that the country was allowed to import Hepatitis vaccination, which is expensive, and that it will arrive early 2013. He also revealed the that the ministry has chosen the slogan “Hepatitis is closer to you than you think” to make people more aware of the dangers of this disease which afflicts 500 million people world-wide, and takes away more than a million lives every year.
