Somaliland Gets Ready For Idd Celebrations

Hargeysa, Somaliland, August 18, 2012 (SL Times) – Like Muslims around the world, the people of Somaliland are getting ready to say farewell to the Holy month of Ramadan and welcome Idd al-Fitr celebrations.
The Idd celebration is also a good occasion for businesses to make money, especially clothing stores since a lot of people buy new clothes so they can look at their best during the celebrations.
One merchant told Haatuf Newspaper that they were seeing increased business activity by the fifteenth of the month of Ramadan with a lot of parents buying new clothing for their children.
Police have also increased their patrols of the main market in the city of Hargeysa to maintain law and order and to prevent thieves from robbing citizens.
Despite feeling the excitement of the coming of Idd, low income families, however, have been complaining about the high prices of consumer items.
